Challenge
GAEA sought to reduce its environmental footprint by offsetting carbon emissions of its olive oil products.
CSE Solution "Climate Neutral" Product
The CSE, with the help of Switzerland-based non-profit myclimate, tabulated carbon-dioxide emissions during Gaea's olive oil production process.
We recorded emissions starting with the cultivation of olives and ending with the distribution of finished olive oils to store shelves. We tallied the carbon emissions during each phase of olive oil production to arrive at the total amount of emissions for each kilogram of olive oil produced.
Gaea compensated for the carbon-dioxide production by funding climate protection projects through the myclimate foundation. Gaea decided to offset 250 tons of olive oil during its initial phase of efforts to reduce its impact on the environment.
The company's extra virgin olive oils are the first in the world to be certified as carbon neutral.
